Abram’s latest addition to the cult heptalogy is an explosive blend of action and heart which, although borrowing heavily from its predecessors, still brings something new.
The Resistance’s galactic attempts to defeat the evil First Order are chronicled with stunning special effects, striking production design, Mindel’s noteworthy cinematography and William’s rousing score.
Performances have improved from its antecedents; Ford’s roguish charm is countered by formidable newcomers Isaac, Boyega and Driver. Ridley’s sensitively bold protagonist Rey, is tough, daring and independent.
Despite its mostly predictable plot, TFA’s an expeditious and riveting edge-of-your-seat journey and better than all the prequels put together.
Jo Bradley.
I gotta say I love how brief and analyzed your review is, and also the maturity in your writing. Great stuff. Keep em coming.
Star Wars has returned and is here to stay.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m just experimenting with this form at the moment but I quite like it and this is he 5th film I’ve reviewed in this way.

Very concise! And I love the challenge of reviewing a movie in just 100 words.

Thankyou for your feedback- It definitely is a challenge- this is the fifth film I’ve reviewed in this way but definitely not the last. I am doing Shawshank redemption next so stay tuned.

Spot on. The plot is nothing new, but everything else about this movie is fun and cool, I can easily live with its limited, small problems.

Good review. It was well worth watching despite any minor shortcomings. The special effects are great, and I loved seeing Han and Chewie together again. 🙂

Thanks for asking me to check out your review. I am so impressed with your ability to capture the essence of this film with so few words. I agree with your analysis… except that I don’t know that this will become my favorite of the Star Wars films. Return of the Jedi will probably always be my favorite!

Great review of an awesome movie, in only 100 words! I love the 100 Word format! It takes talent to maintain, which you obviously have!

Thankyoy! I really enjoy this format because if I don’t limit myself I end up writing 1000+ words haha.

You’re welcome. As for me (a short story writer), I just recently removed my limits, allowing me to write hundreds to thousands of words. Lol!

Like the ADHD version of reviews. Quick to the point, but doesnt offer much chance to dig in. Will you do longer review as well? This brief 100 words was well-written, now I want to know why you think each element is good. It’s hard to find good prose in reviews. I think I found it here. It’d be awesome to get a bit more from you. That said, my reviews may get too nerdy 😉 For now… Colour me compelled.

I’m glad you like it. I’m in my holidays now and am focusing on watching as many movies as possible and thus writing lots of short reviews. I will, however, be writing a long review of the Sherlock Christmas special so stay tuned for that.,

Hhahah right on. Yeah some movies/specials garner a bit more talk. Have fun with the holiday viewing… I was able to catch a few too, like Creed, Sicario, and Bone Tomahawk – all worth the watch! Looking forward to the next batch of reviews.

Yes indeed! Most of the time I get impatient when movies go over 2 hours, but this one was so fast-paced that it felt short.

Whoops, did I read a statement about “favourite Star Wars movie” that didn’t feature The Empire Strikes Back? Heresey!

I think Empire would be a close second. 😀

Really like how you summed this movie up in just a short amount of words. I think you explained it well. I also agree that the acting was much improved, especially with Daisy Ridley. She was really incredible in the movie.

It is fun and I can understand you liking it, but it is surprising that you prefer it to any of the original trilogy. I would certainly put it behind ANH and ESB, with RoJ being the only one of those it can compete with. Definitely an improvement on the prequels.

Well I haven’t seen the original trilogy in a while so I might change my mind if I revisit them. I also think watching it in a big cinema with sound effects would have greatly contributed to m enjoyment of the fm. The trilogies were definitely below standard though.

Props to you for “cult heptalogy.” It’s even more damning than calling “Star Wars” a religion, but only semantically. The box office numbers show that it has enough subscribers at this point to be tax exempt.

Indeed. Didn’t England add “Jedi Knights” as a religion in a census they did?
