Die Hard preserves Explosive Christmas Charm-100 Word Review

McTiernan’s action-packed flick has endured as a gripping holiday classic.

When terrorists take over Nakatomi plaza with a Christmas party full of hostages, it’s up to NYPD cop John McClane to save the day.

In typical James Bond fashion we despair over the unhelpful meddling of the FBI while routing for the underdog.

Willis is in his element as smack talking action man, and Rickman menaces as nefarious mastermind Hans Gruber.

Full of cocky one-liners and explosive stunts, Die Hard’s gritty charm has cemented itself as a great Christmas fun for the whole family.

Until the next sub-standard sequel, Yippee-ki-yay.

  1. I liked the first Die Hard; I really enjoyed Bruce Willis’ performance. I loved him in Moonlighting. It has been awhile since I’ve seen this movie, I’ll have to watch it again. I do agree about sequels, and that applies to any movie franchise.

Nice review. Although I’m always careful about using words like “classic”, the movie seems to be as much part of Christmas as other movies, even though I’m not so sure about the “for the whole family” part ;-).

    1. Thanks for the comment. Haha I might need to revise the ‘whole family part’ 😊

It depends on who the family members are ;-). Still I much prefer to watch “Die Hard” on Christmas Eve than “White Christmas” which I simply found terrible and which seems to be a family Christmas classic :-).

My favorite movie of all time. There’s so much substance and depth to the characters that you don’t normally find in an action movie. It’s also a great Christmas movie. It’s been a tradition for about 6 years in my family to watch it on Christmas Eve. Greatest tradition ever

Hans Gruber is one of my favorite movie villains. Alan Rickman is certainly menacing in the part. I think no matter how may times I watch this movie, it will never get old. Great review, Jo!

Great, concise review!! Die Hard should’ve ended in a trilogy, but the first one sure is iconic. Yippi Ka Yay Motherf****! 😉 And Hans Gruber makes for an elegant and menacing villain.

Yes! A trilogy would’ve been clean, and allowed them to make the third better.
