Forster’s adaption of Knee’s biographical play sensitively describes the whimsical J.M. Barrie, and the family that inspired Peter Pan.
A poignant and sentimental story about the power of the imagination brought to life with tender performances, graceful directing and a wistful score.
Depp was radiant as Barrie, Winslet charmed as his companion, and the children elated as the playful, energetic boys forced to grow up. Highmore particular impressed with a mature vulnerability that enchanted the screen.
A delightful film that delivers a moving background to a beloved children’s story, Finding Neverland will bring joy to the child in us all.

This is a very good movie. I like most of Johnny Depp’s movies.

Yes. I think he’s best in Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is one of the first films I’ve seen where he’s played a normal-ish character. What are your favourites?

I love Pirates of the Caribbean films, those are probably my favorites. I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Sleepy Hollow a lot too.

I was unimpressed by What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, but I blame the plot, not the actors- Leo was very good. For that genre, though, Black Balloon is much better.

It was mostly Leo’s performance that had my attention, and I liked the interaction between him and Johnny. I do agree the plot itself could have been better.

Agreed. I do heartily recommend you check out Black Balloon though. It’s an Australian film about two brothers, one of which is Austistic ( and played very convincingly). The other does a much better job than Johnny Depp and it has more of a plot.

I’ve never properly watched Finding Neverland, maybe this review will finally get me to. 🙂 I’m a big fan of Depp and Winslet. There are so many great performances in a wide variety of work but I’ve got to say if I have a favourite Johnny Depp movie, and Tim Burton movie for that matter, it may just be Ed Wood.

It starts out quite slow so it took a while to get into it, but once you’re emotionally invested it’s a charming film. I’ve never heard of that film! I’ll out it on my Movie Hit list https://scribblesofstageandscreen.com/movie-hitlist/

I’ve been meaning to watch that also! I researched it when writing my incoming review of ‘Last Cab to Darwin’.

I have heard of this series- do you recommend it? The trailers look very creepy…

It is really creepy, in several different ways. The first season can be slightly touch and go at times, but the rest is an effective slow-burn thriller.
