About Me

Hello!

My name is Jo Bradley, and I’m a freelance writer and editor specialising in film, theatre, TV and pop culture criticism. I’m also an emerging theatre director and dramaturg, and more information about my theatre work can be found at Jo-Bradley.com.

I have run Scribbles of Stage and Screen since 2015, and my current focus is Sydney-based theatre reviews and interviewing fellow indie artists.

If you would like to invite me to your upcoming theatre production, please get in touch!

I’m based in Sydney, Australia, and this site is home to all my reviews, essays and interviews. I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at UNSW, where I studied film and theatre studies. In 2020, I wrote my Honours thesis on Female Artistic Directors in Australia’s theatre industry. I am currently a NIDA student in the MFA Directing program.

I have been writing about film, theatre and television since I created this blog in 2015. Since then, I have written reviews and essays for this site, as well as PACT’s Extra! Extra!, Tharunka UNSW, Screen Queens, AussieTheatre.com, Film Inquiry and Blitz UNSW. In 2020, I worked as one of the editors for Tharunka, UNSW’s long-running student magazine.

Hey, I really liked your review of Monuments Men and no, it was not a boring review to read if “I had not watched it before.”

Can you please do a review of a Beautiful Mind next? I want to know what you think about the movie

    1. Hi- No Problem! Yes I think it’s a fantastic show and am interested in watching some of Aaron Sorkin’s other shows. I love Emily Mortimer- as well as being great in this show she’s also very funny in The Pink Panther. I would be keen to read your article!

    Hi Jo,

Thanks for following my blog! I like your blog too! I also watch a lot of TV, though I’m not an aspiring actress, I just like stories! I definitely agree with you that Sherlock and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are amazing TV shows, I like your taste!

As for your favorite movies, I have one question. Which Peter Pan movie are you talking about? The Disney rendition is my favorite Disney movie (closely followed by Robin Hood) but I also really like this version: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316396/. Oh, and this is my favorite TV mini-series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1720619/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2. And if you happen to be looking for a good book that looks at this story from another perspective, check out Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson (the review is on my blog: https://owlishbooks.wordpress.com/2015/11/16/review-tiger-lily-jodi-lynn-anderson/). It sticks close to the original story so I don’t need to warn you for spoilers, but it’s a very interesting take on it! I definitely recommend it.

    Cheers!

    1. Hi!
The 2003 Peter Pan is definitely my favourite- I find the cartoon Wendy a bit annoying. I’ve had my eye on that Neverland show for a while. Thanks for your comment.

In polite company, one never comments upon another’s taste. Why? Taste is self evident and just because Jo appears to have good taste is no reason to draw her attention to this fact. Amongst peers, good taste is presumed. Keep posting Jo.

Hey Jo, i love your site and agree with most of the review, rankings and your opinions, i think in the future you should review,
American Psycho, Schindler’s List, The Babadook, Apocalypse Now and Breaking Bad. i think you would like these. and also for your section on the best SiFi, i think Star Wars episode 5, should 100% be in front of episode 4.

Hey Ollie! Thanks for your comments. Of the above I have only seen Schindler’s List so i will see the others and get back to you 🙂 I don’t know- the actor playing old Annakin was so bad I preferred the 4th. Plus it had that chase sequence.
